11/17/12 - Shots Fired

When I came home from work on Wednesday, people were shooting in the parking lot.  I didn’t realize it at first, and I didn't see them until I was already out of my car.  I would guess them to be in their early 20's.  The point is, they weren't kids.

It turns out they were using a BB rifle, but I didn’t know that at the time and it was very scary.  As I walked from my car to my apartment, I heard the pellets hit the dense leaves beside the sidewalk where I was walking.

I hurried in and called the manager.  They called the police.  Before the police got there, apartment windows in another building were shot out.  I’m glad I don’t face the parking lot.

I didn't start the Drama Free ODAT count over since nothing actually happened to me, the apartment, Betsy, or my furbabies.  Living in the hood is scary at times, full of wonder other times, and always interesting.

Why do I stay here?  Well, first and foremost, I will not give up my animals.  They are family.  No other apartments near work would take Nonni due to her size.  I can't move further from work because my car, Betsy, won't take a daily commute and I don't have the resources to move anyway.  I need to conserve and save, not make changes and spend.  So, it is what it is and in “it”, I will remember God’s abundance.

I am abundant.  I am prosperous.  I am light, love and joy.

And I live in Grace.

  1. so glad it was a bb gun and not real ones and that you are safe. if it makes you feel better, we live in a good hood and the nut case parents next door gave their 3, 4 and 6 year old bb guns for Christmas a couple of years ago and they were in their yard shooting them. the world is nuts, but you should be fine as soon as Texas secedes from the Union.... HA HA one more thing for you to fret about.

  2. @ Sandra - me too! Thank you! I had a bb rifle when I was young. In fact, it was the coveted Red Rider. Sure wish I still had it! :) We lived in the country and I was taught how, when and where to use it (along with other guns as I got older). Never would I have been allowed to point it at anything, let alone scare people or vandalize property - nor would I have wanted to!

Seceding, hmmmm... I am not a fan of the popular break away movement. I love Texas and am Texan born and bred, but I am an American and am grateful for my U.S. of A. citizenship - no matter how nuts or troubled this country (and it's inhabitants) may be. ;)

  3. glad to hear that it was just a bb gun and you or the dogs weren't hurt. People don't realize though that even a bb gun can injure someone.
